In 2022, it will never be easier to be more eco-friendly. Below, we have outlined 10 easy ways that you can change your lifestyle to be more eco-friendly.
Buy what you need
One of the simplest ways to go green is by simply reducing your spending by buying what you need. The less you buy, the less there is for you to waste and send to a landfill to be disposed of.
Bring your own bag
We’re all guilty of heading into the supermarket and forgetting our reusable bag, aren’t we? Employ whatever trick you need to and remember to take your reusable back. Whether that me storing them on your passenger seat instead of your boot, or keeping one in your handbag at all times.
Donate to charity
Instead of just throwing away items that could be reused, consider donating them to charity. Of course, we aren’t suggesting that you donate everything you have in your house to charity instead of contributing to waste. Just the things people could actually use again. The added bonus is that money is raised for a good cause.
Avoid disposables
Avoiding bottled water can save around 150 single-use plastic bottles from landfill every year, so if we were to avoid disposable products in other aspects of life, we could save so much more waste from going to landfill. Consider moving away from disposable sanitary products in favour of reusable, or using reusable cleaning products, rather than disposing of rags after every use.
Invest in electricity free drying methods
According to the Energy Saving Trust, using a tumble dryer can use around 4.5kWh of energy per cycle. It will save you at least £40 a year if you invest in a drying rack or a clothes line, to allow your clothes to dry naturally after being washed. On top of saving energy, you could even save yourself on ironing if you get the clothes over the drying rack fast enough!
Don’t print out where possible
We’re living in the digital age, so it makes sense to try and save paper by sending presentations and contracts digitally, where you can. As well as saving paper, you will also save space in the office by removing filing cabinets and storing information digitally.
Unplug before leaving
One of the easiest ways to be more eco-friendly is to turn off sockets at the wall and unplug them before leaving the area or the house. This will save you hundreds on your energy bill, that you didn’t even know you were spending.
Shop in person
Shopping in person, especially if you can walk there, is much greener than shopping online. Shipping goods across the globe contributes massively to your carbon footprint. Moreover, you’re less likely to return items, further contributing to your carbon footprint, as you can try items on in the shops.
Improve your homes energy efficiency
Consider applying for ECO funding for installers, in order to install an energy efficiency measure in your home, like insulation, to help your home perform better and stay warmer.
Have your groceries delivered
It’s much more energy efficient to allow one van to travel around the area delivering your groceries, rather than taking 20 individual cars to the shop. You’ll be able to get household tasks done while you wait for your delivery too!
