What has changed under PAS2035?

PAS2035 is designed to shape the retrofit process that will be scaled-up to deliver deep retrofit to around 27 million homes over the next thirty years. It made up of two core principles:

1. Fabric First: insulating buildings to keep energy waste as low as possible, whilst ensuring that newly airtight homes are also properly ventilated to avoid damp issues.

2. Whole House Retrofit: whilst addressing the fabric first, we should be creating retrofit plans for homes that consider fabric, services, and renewables together.
Like all British Standards, PAS 2035 is complex and must be fully understood before any action is carried out. Allow Green Deal First, with our years of experience and industry knowledge, be the ones to help.

PAS2035 standards introduce and set the skills for three new roles – Retrofit Assessor, Retrofit Co-ordinator, and Retrofit Designer. How much do you know about each of these new job roles?

Retrofit Assessor

As a Retrofit Assessor, it’s your responsibility to collect data on aspects of the property that relate to all retrofit work, including the functionality and durability of buildings, environmental impact, and energy efficiency. A whole house survey is necessary before any work can begin.

Retrofit Designer

Once it’s time to undertake the design improvement element of the project, the Retrofit Designer steps in. They propose how you’re going to insulate and design the measures that have been outlined at the beginning of the process. It’s not a task for just ‘anyone’. This person must be competent and NVQ qualified.

Retrofit Coordinator

The Retrofit Coordinator takes the assessment and designs and runs it through a system to flag any potential risks and hazards associated with the project. Before any work can start, the Coordinator must ensure all condition related reports are complete and accurate.

Ventilation Assessments

As well as the above, mandatory ventilation assessments have been introduced as part of the new standards that apply to all publicly funded energy efficiency retrofit measure. If you’re struggling to meet these, you can talk to our partner, Provincial Seals, about their system and whole house ventilation solutions – available for purchase right now.
