Simple things your business can do to help stop deforestation

13/11/2021

One of the key decisions that was made at the COP26 conference in Glasgow earlier this year, was the UK’s commitment to do their part to help end deforestation and restore the planet’s rainforests to their former glory.

Of course, your business can also make a contribution to helping stop deforestation. After all, everyone needs to do their part individually to create the bigger picture. The team here at Green Deal First have a few suggestions that you can implements in your business

Go paperless

This could be the most obvious solution to deforestation that we have provided, but it really does work! If it doesn’t need printing, don’t print it. Files like contracts can all be signed online these days, and a hard copy saved to an employee’s hard drive or cloud storage. Moreover, if you have binder after binder of paperwork that isn’t relied upon to run the office, it’s time to recycle it. There are plenty of businesses out there who guarantee the safe recycling of confidential documents and more.

Look into your supply chain

In order to be completely free of deforestation, businesses need to be mindful of their entire supply chain. Are the products you’re buying in to manufacture your goods free from palm oil? Do you purchase them from a company who have pledged to end deforestation and are taking active steps to do so? Both of these questions can be answered by a simple Google search.

You also need to consider your shipping methods and the products you use to ship them. Do you use shipping containers that are made from recycled paper, rather than using fresh produce every time? A simple change that can have a massive difference to the state of the planet.

Keep your employees informed

A key solution in the fight against deforestation is giving people the right information and empowering them to put pressure on the government to live up to the promises they made at COP26. Raising awareness within your workforce about the effects of greenhouse gas emissions on our planet, as well as how we can harvest palm oil more sustainably.

Explaining to your employees why the business is taking the action that they are, will make them more likely to comply with the company’s new, green policies. Change may be started from the top of the organisation, but it takes everyone in the company to comply to make a real difference.

We hope that these tips will help you to introduce green initiatives to your organisation, with the aim of contributing towards the end of deforestation. Of course, if you want to take your efforts to battle climate change away from the office, consider examining your home heating system. If yours needs updating, it is worth applying for ECO funding to have some of the costs subsidised. Of course, if you have any questions about the matter the team here at Green Deal First are on hand to deal with them and give you any advice you need.
